The number one cause of tooth extraction is gum disease. Other common reasons for extractions include the removal of wisdom teeth and teeth that have fractured. Most extractions can be done in the office with local anesthetic. In some instances, patients are sent to the oral surgeon where they have the capacity to administer general anesthesia.
